A rare video from 1964 of the Beach Boys performing “I Get Around” has been circulating online since being uploaded to YouTube back in March. With video cameras directed at them, the five band members perform the famous hit totally unplugged and without the use of any studio production.
The video, which accurately demonstrates what it was like to hear the Beach Boys perform live in the 1960s, shows the five musicians casually jamming in front of an old Dodge Magnum station wagon.
The rising popularity of this archival performance coincides with Brian Wilson’s recent announcement regarding the release of the follow up to the Beach Boys’ 2004 album, Smile.
The new record, entitled Frown, will consist of a collection of unreleased material recorded by Brian Wilson during 1967-1972; the years when Wilson’s mental health was at its worst.
